How to play

Six daily games, one idea: a few minutes of focus, then get on with your day.

The daily rhythm

  • Each game has exactly one new puzzle per day. Everyone playing in your language gets the same one.
  • Puzzles change at midnight in your time zone. A countdown on every game page shows when.
  • Your streak counts consecutive days on which you solved that day's puzzle. Archive puzzles never break or extend it.
  • Results are stored in your browser. No account is required.

WORD — Guess the hidden word.

  1. Type any valid five-letter word and press Enter.
  2. A green tile means the letter is in the right spot. An amber tile means the letter is in the word but in another spot. A grey tile means the letter is not in the word.
  3. You have six tries. Use the on-screen keyboard or your own.
  4. Stuck? Open the hints — they get more specific one at a time.

GROUP — Find four groups of four.

  1. Sixteen words hide four groups of four. Every word belongs to exactly one group.
  2. Tap four words and submit. If they form a group, it locks in with its title.
  3. You may make four mistakes. 'One away' means three of your four were right.
  4. Groups have levels from easiest to hardest — the hardest usually hides a twist.

MAP — Guess the location.

  1. Read the clue, then tap the world map where you think the place is.
  2. Confirm your pin to see how far off you were and in which direction.
  3. You get three guesses. After each one a new hint appears.
  4. Points depend on your closest guess: within 25 km is a perfect score.

HIVE — Build words from today's letters.

  1. Seven letters are shown in a honeycomb. The one in the centre must appear in every word.
  2. Type a word of four letters or more and press Enter. Letters can be used more than once.
  3. Four-letter words score 1 point; longer words score one point per letter. A pangram uses all seven letters and earns 7 extra points.
  4. Your rank rises with your score. Reach "Great" to count the day as solved — or find every word for a perfect score.

Play

CROSS — A tiny crossword for your coffee break.

  1. A small crossword: five by five, a handful of clues, black squares like the real thing.
  2. Tap a square and type a letter. Tap the same square again to switch between across and down.
  3. Use "Check" to mark wrong letters, or reveal a single letter if you are stuck.
  4. The timer stops when every letter is right. Beat your own average time.

Play

SUM — Reach the targets with five numbers.

  1. You get five numbers and three targets, from easy to hard.
  2. Pick a number, an operation and a second number. The result replaces the two numbers you used.
  3. Only whole, non-negative results are allowed. Undo any step or start the target over.
  4. Reach all three targets exactly to solve the day. Skipping a target still finishes the puzzle.
